Dhúiche Sheoigheach Comhaltas

About the Branch

Tá Dúiche Sheoigheach i dtuaisceart na Gaillimhe. Is ceantar álainn shléibhtiúil í

atá ar bhruach Loch Coirib agus Loch Measc. Bhí an-spéis sa cheol i gcónaí sa cheantar. Athbhunaíodh craobh Dhúiche Sheoigheach i 2017. Táimid suite sa Ghaeltacht agus déanann muid chuileiarracht an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn go háirithe i measc na hóige.

When Comhaltas Dhúiche Sheoigheach reformed in 2017 we were a branch of mainly children on whistles and accordions. However we have gradually broadened our membership to include

many adults. We have successfully encouraged many parents and other adults to return to or take up music. Many of our children are now playing concertina, banjo, flute and uilleann pipes and we are hoping to build on this and encourage the fiddle and harp in the coming years. We have also started a number of initiatives to encourage dancing and singing, especially amhrán and sean-nós.

Regular sessions take place in local venues with all levels of musicians attending and a wide variety of instruments played. The Irish language is an integral part of our branch activities. As well as competing in the Fleadhanna Cheoil we also have a number of musicians that sit the SCT exams annually.

Our principal aim is to encourage enjoyment, through participation in Irish traditional music song and dance while also promoting the Irish language.
