About the Branch

Gallimh Theas Comhaltas (representing south Galway area and environs ) based in Gort town was founded in 2014 to represent encourage and nurture Irish Music Language and Song in this region. Historically there had been a Comhaltas in Gort in years past but it had disbanded some years before and in 2014 an interested group came together to restart what is now Gaillimh Theas.

This Comhaltas group  actively participates and encourages Irish Music and meets on a fortnightly basis in the Town hall building in Gort town to host tune swaps and teaching to the broad mix of members . It is an open and inclusive group which encourage and endorse active participation in the sustaining of Irish music song and dance.   Over the years its younger member have participated in Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann both at an individual level/duets and at Ceili Bands level . The musicians give freely of their music in the locality and at fund raising events to both young and old. They are very much know for this at Masses and local events. 

This area of Galway is steeped in tradition of music and poetry been in the shadow of Coole park and Thor Ballylee Yeats county.
